Unlike conventional penknives, the Roadie has a modest index-finger choil that improves control while using the knife and prevents accidentally closing it. With these improved qualities, the Roadie surpasses the traditional penknife and establishes a new benchmark for cutting instruments that are kind to people.
The business end of the Roadie has a sheepfoot-style blade ground from high-performance stainless steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium, known as Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel. Its full-flat grind and wide blade profile produce an amazing edge geometry for a keen, scalpel-sharp edge. The broad blade also gives room for the characteristic “Double Dent” design, which makes it simple to open the blade with a pinch grip using the thumb and index finger.
A Trademark Round HoleTM in the blade proudly proclaims the Roadie as a Spyderco product, despite not being designed as an opening feature. There is a little forefinger choil (finger groove) at the base of the blade, close to the point where it meets the handle. A natural “stop” is produced by placing your index finger on the choil, which gives you superb control over the edge and helps keep the knife from accidentally closing.
The Roadie’s improved notched-joint system holds the blade open in contrast to a conventional slipjoint. In addition to offering the handle structural support, its spring also creates the handle’s entire rear strap, which serves as a base for the tough fibreglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales. The injection-molded scales include recessed Spyderco “bug” logos on both sides and are curved for comfort. The Roadie establishes a new benchmark of excellence for the breed and represents a quantum leap in the development of contemporary pocketknife design.
